NC, Concord (AP) — On Friday, William Byron will receive a four-year contract extension from Hendrick Motorsports, ensuring that the 27-year-old driver remains with the team until the conclusion of the 2029 NASCAR Cup Series season.
The financial details of the extension remain undisclosed.
A two-time Daytona 500 champion, Byron has established himself as one of the sport’s most competitive drivers, already notching 14 Cup Series victories from 2019 to 2024 and achieving six consecutive playoff appearances.
In his eighth season, Byron has emerged victorious in this year’s Daytona 500, marking his second consecutive win in the event and making him the youngest multi-time winner in its celebratory history.
Hailing from Charlotte, Byron currently holds the second position in the Cup standings following a race that awarded 12 points.
“We’ve created something remarkable with team No. 24,” Byron stated. “I am thankful for the chance to keep collaborating with the exceptional team at Hendrick Motorsports who believe in me, especially the Hendricks. We have accomplished some significant achievements that we are genuinely proud of, but there are even more ambitious goals ahead.”
Byron initially signed with Hendrick Motorsports at the age of 18.
He received the Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors in 2018 and has been a strong contender for the Cup Series Championship, achieving six straight playoff appearances, including back-to-back Championship 4 rounds in 2023 and 2024.
“William is the real deal,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “What sets him apart is his blend of natural talent and an incredible work ethic. You can see it in his remarkable achievements – a driver who could rely solely on talent decides to work harder anyway.”
Byron will compete this Sunday in the longest race of the season, the Coca-Cola 600.
