Top aides to President Trump criticized Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) on Monday for opposing the president’s tax and spending agenda, which is currently facing protests over the immigration crackdown in Los Angeles.
“While ICE officers confront violent mobs in Los Angeles, Rand Paul is attempting to cut funding for deportation and border security,” stated Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller in a post on the social platform X.
Paul has become one of Trump’s most vocal Republican critics due to concerns over rising costs and federal debt.
Alongside other GOP senators, Paul pledged to oppose the bill after it was passed by a Republican-controlled House last month, unless additional spending reductions were implemented.
“Congress is like irresponsible teenagers; they’re terrible with money,” Paul remarked. He made this statement during an appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures this weekend. “This situation is completely out of control.”
He reiterated his stance on X after responding to Miller on Monday.
“Don’t get caught in the swamp’s narrative. They assert that we’re borrowing against our future to secure our borders or that we have an open border.” He wrote. “It is possible to have both border security and fiscal responsibility. $75 billion is sufficient to achieve both.”
