Menlo Park, California (AP) – A metaplatform aiming to make its mark in the competitive realm of artificial intelligence has introduced a dedicated AI application featuring social media elements, designed to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The Meta AI app is powered by the company’s Llama 4 AI systems. Among its features is a “discovery” feed that allows users to observe how others engage with AI. Additionally, there’s an audio mode for interacting with the AI.
“It’s smart for Meta to differentiate its ChatGPT competitors by drawing upon the company’s social media origins. The app’s discovery feed is akin to the original Facebook feed but concentrates exclusively on AI applications.”
By enabling users to connect their Facebook and Instagram accounts, the Meta AI app “enhances your experience by instantly tailoring content in the context of social media.”
Meta adopts a distinct strategy compared to many competitors. The app is available for free as an open-source offering. The company reports that more than 1 billion individuals utilize AI products each month.
Llamacon, the inaugural gathering of the California-based tech giant in Menlo Park, featured a dialogue on Tuesday between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, focusing on the rapid advancements in AI and its impact on businesses already engaged in coding.
Zuckerberg recognized the substantial “hype” surrounding AI, asserting, “If this translates into a meaningful boost in productivity, it should be mirrored in a notable increase in GDP.”
“It takes years, it takes years, it takes years, but it takes time,” Zuckerberg stated. “What do you think, what do you think, what should we be observing to gauge the progress of this development?”
Nadella cited the evolution of electricity, asserting, “AI holds great promise, but we need a tangible shift in productivity, which necessitates changes in software and management.”
He noted it took society 50 years to transform factory operations with electricity.
Zuckerberg replied, “Well, we’re investing as if it won’t take 50 years, so we remain hopeful it won’t.”
