Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) stated that her security has been elevated without her request following the tragic shootings of Emerita Melissa Hortman, D., and her spouse over the weekend.
During an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” host Christen Welker inquired if Klobuchar was aware of being on a target list that reportedly includes “notable pro-choice figures in Minnesota.”
Klobuchar indicated that while there is no verification regarding her inclusion on such a list, her security detail has been enhanced without her initiative.
“I just know that they increased security without my request. So I think there are concerns for everyone. I haven’t verified that,” she remarked.
Klobuchar also referred to 57-year-old Vance Bolter, describing him as “a violent and murderous individual.”
“He wouldn’t be aware of the restrictions regarding whether someone is on that list or not,” she commented. “He might alter his focus. That’s what we are most apprehensive about right now. Is the next victim not a political figure, but someone he encounters?”
Klobuchar highlighted that Sen. John Hoffman (D) and his spouse, Belter, who escaped during a confrontation with law enforcement, could still be present in the Midwest following the attack that injured them.
Despite the incident, Klobuchar mentioned that she and other legislators aren’t overly concerned about their personal safety, noting that threats have been a past reality for her and her colleagues.
“We trust that our local law enforcement and the Capitol security will keep us safe,” she stated.
