Ohio Republican Rep. Max Miller reported that he escaped a confrontation on the road Thursday involving a “deranged individual” who brandished a Palestinian flag and issued death threats while driving.
Miller addressed the situation in a video shared on social media platforms. He expressed his intent to hold those responsible accountable, asserting, “We should not endure this overt anti-Semitic violence.”
“While driving to work, a disoriented individual lay on the corner, tried to get my attention by running towards me, displayed a Palestinian flag, and threatened my life and that of my family, alluding to wishes for death to Israel.”
Ohio State Assemblyman did not clarify whether the threats were specific.
Miller reported that he has filed police reports with local authorities and the U.S. Capitol Police.
“If you have an issue with me, bring it to our office. Attempting to run me off the road is an entirely different matter,” Miller stated in the video.
“We know who you are, young man, and the police will be visiting you shortly. I hope your actions were worth the trouble for you and anyone else thinking of engaging in such behavior in our district, state, or country,” he added.
The Rocky River Police Department confirmed that Miller would be calling into the station Thursday morning to “report an incident of road rage” and plans to arrive at the station at 2 PM EDT to provide a written statement. A spokesperson noted he could not wait for lawmakers to meet with officials in the morning.
Capitol Police have also been alerted, according to the spokesperson, and will take charge of the investigation. Oka has reached out to Capitol Police for comments.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Minority Whip Catherine Clark (D-Mass.), and Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) condemned the event.
“We vehemently condemn the attacks on Congressman Max Miller and his family and are thankful for their safety. The surge in political violence in this nation is intolerable. This is a critical moment that demands Congress to take significant steps to guarantee the safety of all members serving in the people’s house,” the joint statement declared.
