DALLAS (AP) — Former NFL player Kelvin Joseph faces allegations of involvement in a highway crash that resulted in the death of a female motorcyclist, according to the Dallas Morning News.
Authorities in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas, announced via social media that Joseph, currently playing in the United Football League this spring, is expected to report to the Plano police concerning his role in Saturday’s incident.
The 25-year-old, who was driving a BMW at the time of the accident, was arrested for driving under the influence. The charges include misdemeanor offenses related to personal injury or death and a second-degree felony. The incident tragically claimed the life of 27-year-old Cody Morris from Plano.
Joseph was selected by the Cowboys in the 2021 draft and played for two seasons before being traded to Miami. He also had brief tenures with Seattle and Indianapolis.
The cornerback is currently playing for the DC Defenders, who are set to compete in the UFL Conference Championship Game on Sunday. The UFL mentioned in a statement that the Dallas television station WFAA was informed of Joseph’s arrest but opted not to provide a comment.
During the 2022 offseason while with the Cowboys, Joseph was a passenger in an SUV from which shots were fired at a group of individuals in Dallas, resulting in the fatal injury of one man. Investigators determined that Joseph was not the shooter, and the NFL did not take action against him.
The lawyer who previously represented Joseph did not respond to inquiries from the Dallas Morning News. It remains unclear whether Joseph has retained legal counsel following his Saturday arrest.
