Representative Jimmy Patronis (R-FLA.) stated that the ongoing feud between Trump and Elon Musk is unlikely to last, emphasizing that Republicans and presidential allies are essentially “one large family.”
Musk has recently criticized the president’s budget proposal for its implications on the national debt, claiming that it undermines the work done by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The tension escalated this week as both parties exchanged sharp remarks on social media.
However, Patronis expressed optimism that a reconciliation would occur soon.
“I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Donald Trump throw [Senator] Lindsey Graham [(R-S.C.)] out like trash; he claims Trump has lost it. But guess what? The very next week, they’re out on the golf course together,” Patronis remarked during his appearance on News Nation’s “The Hill” on Friday, alluding to the sometimes rocky relationships among South Carolina lawmakers.
“Trump understands that you sometimes bump heads with people you trust. With those you care for, it happens all the time in DC. So mark my words,” he added.
Florida legislators also dismissed Musk’s recent proposal to establish a new political party.
“Elon Musk has no serious intention of forming a new political party,” he informed the reporters.
On Friday, Musk suggested the “American Party” as a possible new political entity after his followers voted on the idea on social media platform X the previous day.
“Thanks to Elon Musk for his contributions at Doge. He made it clear that we’ll be taking action in Congress. But at the end of the day, the only friends I have in Washington, DC, are probably my wife and my children,” Patronis stated.
“What matters to me is being a friend to Congressional District 1, and they chose Donald Trump,” he concluded. “They didn’t choose Elon Musk.”
