Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, D., announced that he won’t be switching parties, emphasizing his disagreement with Washington’s Democratic leadership regarding their threat to shut down the federal government unless they secure significant concessions from Republicans on healthcare.
“No, I won’t switch,” Fetterman stated during an interview with Maria Bartiromo, the host of Fox Business Network’s Sunday Morning Futures.
Bartiromo questioned Fetterman about the potential for a party switch, as she discussed whether “real extremists” could “hijack the Democrats” based on policy or rhetoric.
Fetterman expressed his disagreement with Democrats labeling President Trump and his supporters as “Nazis or fascists.”
“If you want a Democrat who calls people Nazis, fascists, or all these kinds of names… I’m not going to be that guy,” he said.
Fetterman indicated that he is more inclined towards “independent thinking and views,” regardless of whether they come from a Republican or Democratic perspective.
His independent stance makes him a potential target for Republican senators, who aim to increase their majority to 54 seats with a switch from Fetterman.
Despite this, the Pennsylvania Senator has remained resolute in his allegiance to the Democrats.
In his interview with Bartiromo, Fetterman defended his support for Israel, arguing that the U.S. had pressured Israel to halt its military operations. He stated that this pressure did not include the elimination of senior Hezbollah leaders in Lebanon or Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
“It’s the end game now,” he remarked. “This war must come to a close, which is why [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu was compelled to take action and go to Gaza City. I will continue to support Israel, just like I have for the past two years.”
