BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — A fire at a chemical plant in northeastern Spain has led emergency services to issue health warnings to 150,000 local residents and enforce stay-at-home orders in five nearby towns, authorities reported on Saturday.
Health Services indicated that Medic responded to four individuals who experienced breathing difficulties.
The fire broke out early Saturday in a warehouse at a factory located near Villanova I Lagertl. Firefighters noted that the warehouse contained 70 tonnes of chlorine intended for swimming pool use.
The stay-at-home orders from the nearest municipality, situated between Barcelona and Tarragona on the Mediterranean coast, were in effect for seven hours.
Firefighters reported that by Saturday afternoon, the fire was under control.
