PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sandy Alcantara struck out six in six shutout innings, leading the Miami Marlins to a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.
Alcantara (3-7) has permitted only three hits since April 12th, with one walk in his first win of the season.
Calvin Fortier successfully navigated a ninth-inning 2-2 situation to secure his fifth save, helping the Marlins win their second game in the last nine outings.
Nick Fortes launched Miami’s second home run of the season, a two-run blast off Mitch Keller (1-9) in the third inning. Eric Waggaman contributed two hits, including his fourth RBI single.
Ke’bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz faced Miami reliever Ronny Henriquez and brought the Pirates within one run, but Pittsburgh’s season-high four-game winning streak came to an end.
Keller allowed eight hits over six innings. The veteran right-hander has not secured a win since defeating the Marlins in his season opener on March 28th.
The Pirates fell to 15-15 as Don Kelly took over as manager for Derek Shelton in early May.

Faucher struggled after hitting Spencer Horwitz and allowing a single to Nick Gonzales, starting at No. 9. The Marlins caught a break when pinch runner Jared Triolo stumbled while trying to advance to third on a hit to Gonzalez’s right field, preventing him from scoring. Triolo ended the game on third base as the tying run.
