Hong Kong (AP) – An Air India flight had to return to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff on Monday due to technical problems, just days after a flight incident involving the crash that killed at least 270 people.
According to a statement from Air India, the aircraft, which was headed to New Delhi, landed safely back in Hong Kong and underwent a check “as a precautionary measure.” The Airport Authority of Hong Kong confirmed that Flight AI315 returned to the city around 1pm.
The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, is of the same model as the one involved in the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, a city in Northwestern India, which occurred a few minutes after takeoff on Thursday. That collision resulted in 241 individuals being onboard, with at least 29 fatalities occurring on the ground. There was one survivor.
India’s national carrier stated that alternative arrangements have been made promptly for passengers affected by this incident to ensure they reach their destinations.
