Correspondent Terry Moran appeared on ABC News just two days after the network announced that The correspondent has been suspended due to a social media post labeling Stephen Miller, the vice chief of staff under the Trump administration, as “world-class dislike.”
The network confirmed on Tuesday that it had reached the end of its contract with Moran.
Officials from the Trump administration, including Vice President J.D. Vance, swiftly condemned Moran’s late-night X post criticizing Miller, which was promptly taken down.
A few weeks ago, Moran interviewed President Donald Trump. In a post on X, he expressed disdain for the president, arguing that such animosity serves his own egotism.
Regarding Miller, Moran stated, “His hatred is his spiritual nourishment. He feeds on hatred.”
Moran, 65, has been with ABC News since 1997, previously serving as a co-anchor for “Nightline” and covering key national political events and the Supreme Court. During a controversial exchange with Trump in a Primetime interview aired a month ago, the president remarked, “You’re not very good.”
Due to poor timing, Moran’s contract with ABC was set to expire this Friday, as noted by sources familiar with the matter, who indicated he is restricted from commenting publicly on personnel issues.
His social media posts violated established journalistic ethics by expressing personal opinions about those he reports on, which is particularly problematic for ABC News during this sensitive timeframe. The network agreed to pay $15 million to Trump’s Presidential Library in December to settle a defamation lawsuit related to George Stephanopoulos’ inaccurate claims regarding Trump and author E. Jean Carroll.
In response to Moran’s departure on Tuesday, Trump aide Stephen Chang stated that the president and his team felt they had been “struck” by Moran’s vulgar comments on X.
