Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) criticized President Trump for the military parade held on Saturday.
“As the tanks roll and jets fly over the Avenue, keep in mind this is all funded by the taxpayers,” Raskin wrote in a social media post.
“There’s a likely surprise for the 14 million people who lost Medicaid,” he continued, alluding to cuts in Medicaid from the president’s spending plan.
The festive occasion celebrated the Army’s 250th anniversary and also marked the President’s 79th birthday.
The Army estimates that the parade, showcasing tanks and World War II weaponry, will cost between $25 million and $45 million.
“It’s a surprise party! Usually, family members foot the bill for these events, but — Surprise! — it’s you who are funding Donald Trump’s $45 million military parade for his 79th birthday,” Raskin stated on Saturday.
For several months, Raskin and fellow Democrats have condemned the GOP spending bill approved by the House during the Trump administration.
Republicans commend the bill for Trump’s tax cuts enacted in 2017 and the extension of $1,000 for every $1,000 invested.
The president has indicated that tariffs will help mitigate the substantial rise in national debt while also urging patrons to honor the legacy of military personnel during the parade on Flag Day.
“Our magnificent military parades shine even in the rain. Don’t forget, rainy day parades often bring good luck. See you all in DC.” True Social Post.
According to NBC’s decision-making desk, 64% of Americans disapprove of using national funds for military parades this weekend.
