Brooklyn, Mich. (AP) – Alex Bowman collided with the wall in the front end of his No. 48 Chevrolet during a multi-car crash in the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday in Michigan.
Bowman managed to exit the car on his own and walked to an ambulance, which took him to the infield for evaluation.
“It hurts a lot,” he remarked. “I’ve taken quite a few hits.”
Austin Cindric’s No. 2 Ford made contact with Cole Custer’s No. 41 Ford and Daniel Suarez’s No. 99 Chevrolet, with Bowman struggling against the wall during lap 67 of the 200-lap race.
Competing for Hendrick Motorsports, Bowman’s performance in Michigan ranked him 12th and caused a drop in his standings following this incident.
He has finished 27th or worse in seven of his last nine races, failing to complete the third leg in a challenging stretch.
Earlier in the season, Bowman was among the top 10 in five out of the first six races, including a second-place finish at Homestead Miami in March. He earned his 8th Career Cup Series victory last year in Chicago.
