Murfreesboro, Tennessee (AP) – a Runaway Pet Zebra was relaxing in Tennessee for over a week, becoming an internet sensation, officials reported.
Ed the Zebra was captured safely after being spotted in a meadow near a property in the Christiana community in central Tennessee, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office stated that their air crew successfully apprehended the zebra.
“Ed was airlifted and returned to the animal trailer waiting via helicopter,” the sheriff’s office mentioned in a statement.
A video shared by the sheriff’s office shows Ed being wrapped in a net as he is transported to the trailer by helicopter.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ed arrived in Christiana on May 30th and was reported missing the following day.
The zebra was spotted along Interstate 24, photographed, and deputies were forced to close the road. However, Ed managed to flee to a wooded area.
Numerous sightings were shared on social media, with videos showing Ed running around the neighborhood.
The zebra quickly became a viral meme target. One fabricated post illustrated Ed’s diet at Waffle House, a Southern classic. Other memes depicted him visiting various Tennessee cities and panhandling by roadside.
Ed’s chase came a month after a Runaway Kangaroo shut down parts of the Alabama Interstate.
