MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Memphis Grizzlies center Zack Eday has suffered another significant injury to his left ankle, with the team announcing on Saturday that he will require surgery to address the issue ahead of the all-rookie team selection.
The Grizzlies reported that the 7-foot-3 Eday was working out this week when he re-injured his ankle. Imaging studies revealed severe ligament laxity, which will necessitate surgical intervention to reassess his ankle condition.
The National Player of the Year at Purdue previously missed 12 games earlier in the season due to a left ankle sprain. He managed to play 66 games and made 55 starts, averaging 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds, leading among rookies.
The Grizzlies will provide an initial recovery timeline following the surgery, and Eday is expected to make a full recovery.
