BOSTON (AP) – Brett Batty contributed with two hits and three RBIs, including a crucial two-run single, leading the New York Mets to a 5-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night, thus avoiding a three-game sweep.
Batty also provided a single to ignite their first homer for Bientos, putting the Mets ahead 1-0. Francis Colindore recorded a pair of hits, featuring a ninth-inning solo home run, as New York secured their second win in the last seven attempts.
Huascar Brazobán (3-0) secured the win after loading the bases and hitting Alex Bregman to close out the inning.
Jaren Duran hit a deep fly ball to the right-field warning track, resulting in a sacrifice fly that gave Boston its only run in the fifth inning.
Liam Hendrix (0-1) brought in Garrett Crochet alone in the sixth to finish the inning but then allowed three consecutive singles to start the seventh.
Brennan Bernardino replaced Hendrix and allowed Batty’s single to bounce off the Green Monster, resulting in two runs for a 3-1 score. Juan Soto then added a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 4-1.
Important Moments
Boston loaded the bases in the fifth but ended up with only one run from Duran’s sacrifice fly, which was a 108 mph line drive to the warning track in right. After Rafael Devers walked to reload the bases, Brazobán entered and hit Bregman after a 3-2 pitch.
